JUST DO IT!

I love this red floral skirt from Mr price, I don't quite remember how much I paid for it but it was for sure below R100. Don't you just love a steal?
Its tulip shaped with a floral print.

In this look I mixed a lot of things; firstly the turban, my all time favorite piece of clothing which I have blogged about too many times!.. then there's the comfortable sporty t-shirt and of course the beloved belt and If I could I would belt everything.
I got this belt at Edgars for R100, it really fits in with everything. What a great buy!

I was going for a confortible look here with efortless chic..

There are many ways to style a turban and I'll show you one of the ways soon.  If you a interested, watch this space and get your scarfs ready.

SEQUINS..

A little glits and shine is acceptable during the day. . .Thank goodness fashion has decided to be accepting of bling in daylight.
Bling in the form of sequins is soo hot right now...Spice up your outfit with opposites; i.e. Balance the sequines with less glitzy, less dressy pieces.
Instead of heels, wear this look with sneakers or flats to create that contrast.

I have a sequin skirt that I have always felt is too dressy and shiny as a result I haven't worn it much.
With bravery this weekend I wore it, I attempted to loosen it up by pairing it with a loose fitting knit jersey and I swapped the heels for flats.
I liked the results, still super chic but a lot more relaxed.
There really is no need to fear sequins...

The perfect pair of jeans

Finding the perfect pair of jeans can be a struggle.. The right cut, the right length, the right fit..all important considerations. The perfect pair of jeans has a way of making you feel like a million bucks. It hides all the stuff you want to hide and highlights your best assets.
Denim is one of those classic trends that never go out of fashion.

I love my jeans just above the ankle, low cut without showing any under garments and well fitting without being too tight..
I always go for as little embellishments as possible. If the jeans must have glitters and diamante on them, then they should be dead cheap so that when I get sick of them I don't feel bad about how much I spent on them.

There are no rules on how to wear jeans; anyhow goes. Wear them with heels, with flats or with a blaser for a casual formal look and with a tshirt for a very casual feel. Anyway you want them will do.

I was going for comfortable casual chic..

PURPLE SKIRT

I love ladylike dresses and skirts. Clinched at the waist, 50s style, just below the knee frocks make me feel like a woman. They are understated and sexy..with a lil glamour. Classy, understated Gorgeousness. I think I am always on the look out for 50s style clothing; if I had the time I would troll vintages stores in search of aged treasures.

This purple Christopher Strong skirt is one of my power outfits; I wear it when I need to feel like I can take over the world...
The skirt sways when I move and it has big pockets enough for a blackberry, a lip gloss and and car keys..whats not to love!

I tried to keep the rest of the outfit quite simple, because I felt the skirt is quite present..

Office wear..

This is my interpretation of the reserved office look. I felt like being serious but comfortable and which a tad of whimsy. I work in a conservative banking environment where suits and ties are the order of the day. Because of this I'm always looking for cuter, edgier and just plain different ways of interpreting my office look. Wearing a plain brown accountant suit is not my idea of a goo look..

Here I try to reinterpret the pencil skirt with a shirt by wearing a peplum short skirt and sheer blouse. The neckpiece is my way of wearing the tie.

BTM TENNIS MATCH

Today was the Breaking the Mauld exhibition tennis match between the Williams sisters. I was rooting for Serena of course and she didn't disappoint fans when she won in straight sets.

The majority of the people in the arena were rooting for Venus, she had a connection with the crowd and was overall a very likable player.

Serena looked great in a white Nike peplum skirt with a salmon top; her body was as athletic as ever.

It was very hot, so I went for a light and fresh look..I paired a short summer dress with a denim top.

ARE LOCAL DESIGNERS TOO GOOD FOR US?

Many of us really want to support the local fashion industry; not as a favor to local designers but because we simply love the clothes. The fact that we are boosting local businesses in the process is a bonus.

The problem is we have no idea where to buy locally designed clothes.

There is 36 boutiques, which is one of the very few online stores that offer a limited range of some great local designers; its convenient, the website is simple to use, its safe and I can buy a dress at 23:00.

Parkhurst in JHB  is the other place where you can find cute boutique stores that carry local designs.
I really don't know any other places in JHB that offer a wide range of local designers under one roof.

I feel like there is a missing link between the consumer and the designers.

Fashion is a business like any other; the number of units sold multiplied by the price per unit gives you your turnover. Therefore to increase your turnover you need to increase the number of units sold.  You can increase the price, but only to a certain point as consumers will only buy a product at a certain price range..My point is if designers need to sell products to customers to make money why then is there such a gap between the two parties...

Are designers already selling enough?

Which stores carry local designers? And why don't designers have websites with their latest lines and more importantly where to find their latest lines? I'm not talking about a long list of stockist that at most times don't event have the latest merchandise..I am talking about a real time link with accurate information of where to buy a particular piece.
This may not apply to all designers but certainly applies to many..

Let me give at least three examples:
1. Faeeza Khan's fab shweshwe print skirts were featured on Elle magazine some months ago; I called around, googled, came up empty handed..I did however find her fabulous blog during the search(:

2. Again some months ago, I went to a fashion show courtesy of Elle magazine; there were some lovely Christopher Strong dresses I had to have..Looked around, went to Parkhurst, called the company; All I got was sorry we are based in Cape town..*sigh*

3. More recently I saw a wonderfully floral Thula Sindi dress to die for on Grazia magazine; I called the stockist's number.. and it just rang unanswered..I really love this dress so I tweeted the designer himself..

You know that feeling..like you are the only one who wants the relationship? Are local designers too good for us?

JHB FASHION WEEK AFRICA 2012

The Johannesburg fashion week comes to a close this Sunday. On Saturday I saw the Loin Cloth and Ashes  and Thula Sindi shows.

The Loin Cloth and Ashes's collection was full of romantic whites and the usual African prints we have come to expect. Anisa collaborated with DJ Anele Mdoda; they wanted to create a collection that was feminine and had an adventurous soul.

Thula Sindi's show delivered as expected. Lady like glamour, with flowy skirts, peplum tops and cliched at the waist dresses. As usual his clothes are practical and wearable. Thula seems to be having a love affair with leather; some of his clothes have pieces of leather in them and he closed his show with all the models wearing leather jackets. I'll post photos soon.

What I took from the shows is that prints are here to stay; whether animal or African, dresses and skirts continue to rule..short long or midi. Loin cloth also showed some one piece jumpsuits.
Tis the season of the lady!

While I was having lunch waiting for the Loin Cloth and Ashes show to start, I noticed the Satorialist sitting across from me  also having lunch and taking a breather between shows.

Last night I attended the very first Grazia SA's readers event in Rosebank. It was an Italian affair where   colors,  patterns and eye shadow were the topics on everyone's lips. Wine flowed freely while the Grazia team gave fashion and beauty tips for the season. The evening was a definite a success; all the right ingredients that make the perfect dinner party were present.. Wine, Fashion, Pasta and and the oh so glorious goodie bag.
