You are as important as the Stars

This blog post is inspired by my blogger friend Sam J from Frills and Thrills; every Friday she posts something inspirational on her blog. Today I woke up needing such an inspirational something.... So I decided to take a page from Sam's book and post this really wonderful poem Desderata By Max Ermann. It always seems to make me feel better about anything, no matter how awful I may perceive it to be. I hope it makes you feel better too about your "stuff" too.

Go placidly amid the noise and haste, and remember what peace there may be in silence.

As far as possible without surrender be on good terms with all persons.

Speak your truth quietly and clearly; and listen to others, even the dull and the ignorant; they too have their story.

Avoid loud and aggressive persons, they are vexations to the spirit.
If you compare yourself with others, you may become vain and bitter; for always there will be greater and lesser persons than yourself.

Enjoy your achievements as well as your plans.
Keep interested in your own career, however humble; it is a real possession in the changing fortunes of time.
Exercise caution in your business affairs; for the world is full of trickery.
But let this not blind you to what virtue there is; many persons strive for high ideals; and everywhere life is full of heroism.

Be yourself. Especially, do not feign affection.
Neither be cynical about love; for in the face of all aridity and disenchantment it is as perennial as the grass.

Take kindly the counsel of the years, gracefully surrendering the things of youth.
Nurture strength of spirit to shield you in sudden misfortune.

But do not distress yourself with dark imaginings.
Many fears are born of fatigue and loneliness.

Beyond a wholesome discipline, be gentle with yourself.

You are a child of the universe, no less than the trees and the stars; you have a right to be here.
And whether or not it is clear to you, no doubt the universe is unfolding as it should.

Therefore be at peace with God, whatever you conceive Him to be, and whatever your labors and aspirations, in the noisy confusion of life keep peace with your soul.

With all its sham, drudgery, and broken dreams, it is still a beautiful world. Be cheerful. Strive to be happy.

My hair right now!

This post has been inspired by fellow blogger and hair lover Tendayi from http://www.africanhairblog.com
Tendayi is a lady who is passionate about taking care of hair, nourishing it and creating a fertile environment for it to grow and flourish. After much reading up on her blog about how I should be taking care of my hair and all the don'ts that I'm currently doing, I silently made a promise to from there on be gentler and caring of my hair.

What I have been doing:
- I have been treating weekly, I mostly do this at home with a deep conditioning treatment from Organic; every two weeks I do this treatment at the salon.
- I air dry my hair with rollers, so I don't have to use a straightening iron or a blow dryer which can lead to thinning of hair strands.
- No micro braids for me; when I braid my hair I ensure the braids are not too thin because this could lead to hair loss on the hair line.
- I moisturize every night before bed both my scalp and the hair, I don't like to do this in the morning because the hair may be too oily.

My hair right now:
My hair was texlaxed three weeks ago; texlaxing is a form of relaxing that doesn't straighten the hair too much, it leaves it manageable and not bone straight.
I then did what is called dry curl; to achieve this you put perm rollers on wet hair and sit under the dryer for an hour.
The result is bouncy curls that look like an afro without the the stiffness and dryness of an afro. I plan to do these curls myself next time after conditioning at home, I'll put them on before bed so that they dry overnight and I will not need to use a dryer. First I need to find the perm curlers..I have no idea where to buy them.
I'm really enjoying these curls, I feel like I'm channeling a young and innocent MJ ..bonus (:

Immediately after the curls were done..

Two days after the curls were done..

I hope you enjoyed the post, visit again soon.
